Owner
Dr. Kristin Heeney, O.D.
Dr. Kristin Heeney has led Spadina Optometry since 2002. She holds a Doctor of Optometry from the University of Waterloo and is certified in the treatment and management of ocular disease.
Dr. Heeney completed an externship in ocular diseases and therapeutics at Omni Eye Specialists, training alongside ophthalmologists in the management of cataracts, glaucoma, retinal disease, and refractive surgery. She practiced at Master Eye Associates in Austin, TX before returning to Toronto, and was a consulting optometrist at LasikMD supporting pre- and post-operative care for refractive surgery patients.
Dr. Heeney is the primary provider for dry eye care at Spadina Optometry. She performs structured dry eye assessments including meibography and provides TempSure Envi radiofrequency treatment for Meibomian Gland Dysfunction. Her approach is to identify the underlying cause -- not just treat symptoms -- and build a plan matched to each patient's severity and daily life.
She also has extensive experience in advanced contact lens fitting, including multifocal lenses, monovision, and complex corneal fits. She works with patients who have not had success with standard lenses -- whether due to presbyopia, irregular corneas, or chronic discomfort.
Dr. Heeney is an advocate for mental health awareness in optometric practice. She believes eye care appointments are an opportunity to check in on overall well-being, not just vision, and works to make the clinic a space where patients feel comfortable raising concerns beyond their eyes.
Dr. Heeney is a Board Member of the Ontario Association of Optometrists (OAO) and a member of the Canadian Association of Optometrists and the College of Optometrists of Ontario.
Associate
Dr. Ema Hazra, O.D.
Dr. Ema Hazra has practiced at Spadina Optometry since 2018, returning to her hometown of Toronto and the clinic where she previously interned. She holds a Doctor of Optometry from the University of Waterloo.
Dr. Hazra is the primary provider for myopia control at Spadina Optometry. She works with families to assess risk factors, monitor eye growth with axial length measurement, and build tailored treatment plans using specialty lenses, orthokeratology, and low-dose atropine. She enjoys working with children and takes time to make young patients comfortable during their visits.
Dr. Hazra completed an externship in ocular disease and therapeutics at the Eye Associates of Pinellas in Florida, training alongside ophthalmologists in the management of glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts, and diabetic retinopathy.
Outside the clinic, Dr. Hazra has conducted vision screenings for athletes with Special Olympics Ontario and served as a CNIB Vision Mate ambassador.
Dr. Hazra is a member of the Canadian Association of Optometrists, the Ontario Association of Optometrists, and the College of Optometrists of Ontario. Her clinical interests include myopia control, specialty contact lenses, dry eye disease, pediatric eye care, and refractive surgery.
Clinic Director
Dr. David Wilkinson, O.D., FAAO
Dr. David Wilkinson has practiced at Spadina Optometry since 2007. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO) and a certified clinical investigator with a focus on contact lenses and myopia management.
Dr. Wilkinson is the primary provider for scleral and specialty contact lens fittings at Spadina Optometry, including lenses for keratoconus, irregular corneas, and complex prescriptions. He also provides myopia control for children, with a particular focus on orthokeratology and axial length monitoring.
Dr. Wilkinson served as Practice Advisor at the College of Optometrists of Ontario from 2012 to 2021 -- the regulatory body for every optometrist in the province. In that role, he helped develop standards of practice, clinical policies, and the College's Quality Assurance program. He also prepared regulations for the Ministry of Health and presented at regional and interprofessional meetings.
He is a part-time Clinical Instructor at the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and Vision Science, where he supervises upper year optometry students in clinical care.
